2009 - FASHION: TRANSPARENCY

FASHION: Transparency - An innovative collection of garments constructed from nonwoven fabrics researched, designed and produced by Fashion students and staff in the School of Design, University of Leeds.

This collection invites us to view materials in a challenging new way, allowing for temporary distorted and mirrored reflections of what we observe. Merging history with science creates a mix of multilayered new materials with an air of familiarity. Fabrics are given ingrained imperfections, adding a sense of story kept up to date in an elegant and contemporary way with sonic bonding, laser cutting and beading. Here ‘transparency’ creates a mood with many facets, from soft dressing and feminine ruffles through to tailored-inspired looks.

In this collection successful combinations of new technology and traditional techniques have been fused with apparel to create garments that change how the wearer feels.

These garments are the result of the support and generosity of Colbond, Netherlands who kindly supplied their innovative engineered fabrics.
