"ITMA 2007 REVIEW"

Thursday 19th June 2008
Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford, West Yorkshire
ITMA Review

The committee of the Nonwovens Network considered it their absolute duty to keep members and guests informed of the proceedings of ITMA 2007.
Consequently this year’s seminar concentrates largely on this 4 yearly event. The Exhibition held in Munich was heralded as excellent in terms of access, organisation, size and quality of exhibitors and exhibits.
Our emphasis, therefore, is concentrated on Machinery, both in overview and in particular, as well as including such on-going issues as Research and Sustainability.
This is our 11th annual event to which Network members, non members and guests are all invited to attend.
Opportunities are available for all those wishing to exhibit and there is also a wallet service available.
During the day there will be an opportunity to view the garments made by the students at the University of Leeds. The garments were recently exhibited at INDEX and are made from nonwoven materials generously donated to the fashion department, at the University of Leeds, by Members of the Nonwovens Network.

From highly inauspicious origins Nirmal Singh by hard work and ability has become a leading member of the local society in West Yorkshire. He established a nonwoven textile operation in Bradford following previous employment in the textile industry which prospered and enabled him to expand his operation to the extent that he now owns the Mill that originally turned down his employment. As a significant supporter of charitable causes he was awarded the MBE. He is an active participant in many community activities including the Yorkshire Society and is ex-Chairman founder of the Sikh Forum and is currently Patron of the Sikh Forum.

4th Annual Seminar - Thursday 20th June 2002
'DESIGNED-in'NONWOVENS

The Nonwovens Network was pleased to present its fourth seminar.

In order to benefit the Nonwovens Industry, the theme of adding value to Nonwoven substrates was pursued.

Seminar 2002 had been arranged so that it would continue to address Nonwoven traditional markets in technical and industrial applications, whilst at the same time looking at ways in which the markets can be expanded into other areas.

At last years seminar we began to introduce, the concept of aesthetic design when we welcomed a speaker from the United States who showed us experimental nonwoven fabrics using conventional surface patterning techniques. These techniques resulted in considerable financial gain for his business. We continued the theme at our pre-dinner lecture in December 2001, when Tim Hoyle showed us some advancements in digital printing.

As a result of the previous two meetings this seminar was, in part, designed to exploit this theme further and to endeavour to continue to excite the imagination by exploring the world of aesthetics and the possible market potential this could open up to Nonwovens manufacturers.

Consequently whilst keeping faith with our grass roots in technical product design for particular end use, speakers were introduced from the area of visual design, in order to investigate whether the application of surface pattern to traditional textiles could be transposed onto Nonwoven substrates.

Dry Laid Nonwovens and the exciting areas of ITMA’99

On 30 June 1999 the Nonwovens Network held its first seminar.

Nowhere has textile progress been more dramatic in recent years than in the field of nonwovens.

An increasing number of end-users around the world rely on nonwovens and production in Europe continues to increase. With apparently unlimited scope for market innovation, this industry is of enormous scale in both technology and application.

The pace of development is such that it is not always easy for individual companies to keep abreast of the latest trends and advances. With ever changing consumer demands and new emerging technologies it is vital that our industry has the information necessary to respond to these changes in order to gain or retain its competitive edge.

The Nonwovens Network, is a tremendously valuable and unique information and contact resource for everyone involved in the industry. The conference was attended by more than 100 industrialists.

Nonwovens Network Dinner

The Nonwovens Network dinner was held at the Posthouse Hotel, Brighouse, West Yorkshire on 2 December 1999 and was attended by around 100 people from the nonwovens industry. The dinner provided members with an opportunity to discuss developments in nonwovens in an informal and friendly environment.

Mr. Adrian Wilson of Nonwovens Report International gave a presentation on web-based sources of information on nonwovens and Dr. Stephen Russell of the University of Leeds' Nonwovens Research Group gave a report on developments presented at the INDA-TEC 99 technical nonwovens conference held in the USA.
